At A Level you need to be proving you have read a broad range of texts in the genres you are studying. This helps you make connections between texts and contexts, as well as grasp the themes, conventions and motifs of the genre.

This worksheet includes a list of classic and contemporary dystopian novels to analyse as well as some blank boxes for any other texts you might find useful. Although you don’t need to read each one cover to cover, a skim read or a look through a detailed summary will give you a good understanding of the key plot points, themes, contexts and influences of the novels.

Some of these do have TV and film adaptations, which can also be useful for contextual purposes, but remember that the original texts are the best sources!
